Fractional CFO · South Africa

A fractional CFO who builds what's missing.

Senior financial thinking inside your business, without a full-time salary. We call it a Fractional Financial Engineer: we read your numbers the way a CFO would, then build the tools, reports and processes to act on them, and stay while they work.

What is a fractional CFO?

A fractional CFO is a senior finance person who works in your business part of the time, for a monthly fee instead of a full-time salary. You may also hear outsourced CFO, virtual CFO or part-time financial director. They mean much the same thing.

Your accountant keeps your books right and your tax in order. A fractional CFO reads those same books with you, to answer what the books alone don't: where the money is made, where it leaks, and what to do next.

Cash.

Where the cash goes, and a forecast of where it's going.

Profit.

Which jobs, clients and products actually make money, and which don't.

Decisions.

The numbers behind a hire, a loan or a second branch, before you commit.

Reporting.

Proper reporting for the bank, the board or the family.

Fractional CFO or Fractional Financial Engineer?

We do what you'd expect from a fractional CFO. The difference is what happens after the advice.

What you'd expect from a fractional CFO

  • Reading your books every month or quarter
  • Cash flow forecasts and budgets
  • Reporting for the bank, the board or the family
  • A sounding board before big decisions

What a Fractional Financial Engineer adds

  • A rand value on every finding, so you know what's worth going after first
  • Building what's missing: a dashboard, a system, written procedures, a pricing exercise
  • Keeping what we build running, so the change lasts
  • Working in the order your business needs: Delivery, then Direction, then Demand

You set the destination. We map the way there, build what's needed, and walk it with you.

What a fractional CFO costs in South Africa

Someone senior who reads a business this way normally costs R1.5 million to R2 million a year, full-time. Most owner-led businesses can't carry that, and don't need all of it yet.

With us you pay for the part you need. It starts with a once-off First Look, and every level after it is one fixed monthly fee.

  1. First Look

    “What do my numbers say?”

A once-off look at your books: where the money is made, where it leaks, and what it's worth.

    R3,500 once-off

  2. Snapshot

    “How did we do?”

A clear report from your books, quarterly or monthly, with three things to act on.

    From R750 a month

  3. Insight

“Where do we actually make money?”

Your books plus one more source, like quotes or sales. Profit by job, client or product, and a monthly meeting.

    From R3,500 a month

  4. Live

    “What's happening right now?”

A live dashboard, a cash forecast and time with us before big decisions.

    From R7,500 a month

  5. Horizon

    “Where are we going?”

A financial engineer on your team: views for every manager, budgets, forecasts and a plan for the year.

    From R12,000 a month

The full service, Horizon, starts at R144,000 a year.

Less than a tenth of a full-time salary, and you can step down to a lighter level with a month's notice.

Every fee is quoted for your business. Konzult Analytics is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to any fee.

When a business is ready for one

It's rarely about size. It's about the questions on your desk that the books alone don't answer.

  • Turnover grows faster than profit
  • You made a profit, but there's no money in the bank
  • A big decision is coming: a hire, a loan, a second branch
  • You can't say which jobs, clients or products actually make money
  • The bank, the board or the family wants proper reporting

How it starts

One small, fixed piece of work on the accounting reports you already have. Then you decide.

  1. A conversation.

    Free · 60 minutes

Online or in person, about your business and the questions you want answered.

  2. Your First Look.

    R3,500 once-off · about 2 weeks

We work through your accounting reports: where the money comes from, where it goes, and what stays behind. Nothing new for your team to capture.

R2,000 for BNI members and clients referred by a partner practice.

  3. The readout.

    60 minutes

At least one finding with a rand value, three things to act on, and a next step if there is one. If there's nothing worth acting on, we say so.

Questions owners ask about fractional CFOs

What does a fractional CFO do?
Reads your numbers with you and helps you decide: where the money is made and where it leaks, cash forecasts, budgets, pricing, and reporting for the bank or board. We add the build: where acting on a finding needs a tool, report or process that doesn't exist yet, we build it.
How much does a fractional CFO cost in South Africa?
At Konzult, a First Look at your books is R3,500 once-off. Monthly levels run from from r750 a month for a quarterly report to from r12,000 a month for the full service. A full-time CFO normally costs R1.5 million to R2 million a year.
Is a fractional CFO the same as an outsourced or virtual CFO?
Mostly, yes. All three mean senior financial help without a full-time hire. Outsourced and virtual say the person isn't on your payroll or in your office; fractional says you pay for part of their time.
Will a fractional CFO replace my accountant?
No. We work alongside your accountant, and we never give accounting or tax advice. Your accountant keeps the books right; we read them for the decisions in front of you.
Do you work with businesses outside Gauteng?
Yes. We work online across South Africa, and in person in Gauteng.
Which accounting systems do you work with?
QuickBooks, Xero and Sage, through their standard reports.
